Still today, horrific reports of clergy sexual abuse of children are being made public. There is no end to the pain these survivors suffer. A 46 year old man was found hanged in his own home July 1st in Ebensburg PA. Brian Gergely had found the courage to go public in 2003, telling of Monsignor Francis McCaa sexually abusing him as a ten year old altar boy. Brian gave many interviews in hopes of encouraging other survivors to report their…..
Another example of the dangers of hidden and protected sexual predators within the Catholic priesthood and various religious orders world-wide.
A March 15, 2016 article on www.aol.com quotes Pennsylvania Attorney General, Kathleen Kane, “Three members of a Franciscan religious order were criminally charged with conspiracy on Tuesday for letting a friar, who was a known predator, hold jobs in which he sexually abused more than 80 children.”
An Editor’s note appears at the beginning of this…..
While my husband and I had been enjoying a beautiful Christmas with our family, continuous heavy rains wreaked havoc with all the Missouri Rivers, from the mighty Mississippi to the smaller Bourbeuse River that flows near our house. On a normal day, it’s very inviting for boating, fishing or swimming, but by the end of December 2015, this quiet little river was rising quickly, and we knew it was imperative to move our belongings to upper shelves in our garages…..
11-’15 SPOTLIGHT movie review
This is a heads-up for anyone still doubting the truth of clergy sexual abuse reports being made against priests in the Catholic Church. This movie exposes the Church Officials’ appalling behavior in just the Boston area; shocking everyone in 2002.
I recently viewed Spotlight at a St Louis South County theatre. Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams portray journalists assigned to investigate reports by abuse survivors in Boston. A specific investigative team of the Globe…..
This November 7, 2015 article by Bill Draper, Associated Press, appeared on www.stltoday.com.
“Kansas City – A Missouri prosecutor has called out members of a small community for shunning a sexual abuse victim while publicly supporting a community leader who confessed to molesting her for more than a decade.”
Three cheers for prosecuting attorney, Eric Zahnd. He was speaking of sixteen residents of Dearborn, a small town of about 500 residents in northwest Missouri, who strongly supported Darren Paden…..
Bishop Robert Finn had been found guilty in 2012 of failing to report suspected clergy sexual abuse, but many found his punishment quite disappointing when he only received two years’ probation for his scandalous crimes. Still, even with just that light slap on the wrist, clergy abuse survivors could find some gratification in knowing Bishop Finn was the highest-ranked church official in the US actually convicted of failing to respond to victims’ clergy abuse allegations.
Shockingly, the Catholic Church continued…..
Action News WPVI-TV in Philadelphia PA reported on September 16th that victims’ advocates have sought a Vatican inquiry into Cardinal Justin Rigali’s and Cardinal Raymond Burke’s behaviors while serving as archbishops respectively, in Saint Louis MO and Philadelphia PA and La Crosse Wisconsin and Saint Louis MO. The Catholic Whistleblowers’ Steering Committee is presenting evidence to the Congregation of Bishops in Vatican City for thorough investigations. As bishops, these men should have been protecting vulnerable children and adults from clergy sexual abuse,…..
Excitement is building among Catholics in anticipation of Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S. in Pennsylvania this month. Among other things, he’ll be visiting President Obama at the White House, addressing a joint session of the U.S. Congress, addressing the U.N. General Assembly, holding an interfaith service at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, saying a Mass for church leaders at the Cathedral in Philadelphia, attending the World Meeting of Families, visiting Philadelphia’s largest prison and saying a Mass, open to…..
